In the early 20th century, Muskegon Heights was designed with attractive buildings and wide streets to be a model suburb for the many workers in Muskegon’s mills and factories. All too soon, the mills closed and manufacturing diminished to a trickle, leaving unemployment and abandoned businesses. But “the Heights” is a community possessing tremendous natural assets and people with the capacity to make a comeback – this time with a far more diverse economy. Plans are under way to make it again a model community.
